Tour Itinerary
Your half-day tour begins early at 4:30 AM with a pick-up by your guide and Tuk Tuk driver, taking you on a captivating journey to witness the breathtaking sunrise at Angkor Wat. After this mesmerizing experience, you continue exploring the vast temple complex. As a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest religious monument in the world, Angkor Wat is an architectural masterpiece. Built in the 12th century by King Suryavarman II, it was originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu before becoming a Buddhist temple. Its intricate bas-reliefs and symbolic design represent Mount Meru, the center of the universe in Hindu and Buddhist cosmology.
After Angkor Wat, the tour continues to Angkor Thom, the grand capital of the Khmer Empire, built in the 12th century under King Jayavarman VII. This impressive city, reflecting Buddhist cosmology, is enclosed by a massive 3-kilometer-long wall on each side and features five monumental gates. You will stop at the South Gate of Angkor Thom, the most famous and best-preserved entrance to the city. Built in the late 12th century in the Bayon style, it is a popular spot for visitors to take photos before entering Angkor Thom.
Inside, you explore Bayon Temple, built nearly a century after Angkor Wat as a temple-mountain symbolizing Mount Meru. Its grand architecture features 54 towers adorned with over 200 massive stone faces, believed to represent the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. These serene faces, known as the "Smile of Angkor," embody the omnipresence of the king and add to the temple’s majestic atmosphere.
Passing through Angkor Thom, you will see the Terrace of the Elephants, a 350-meter-long platform adorned with intricate carvings of elephants and mythological creatures. Built by King Jayavarman VII, this grand stage was used for royal ceremonies and public events, offering insight into the splendor of the Khmer Empire.
Next, you visit Ta Prohm, the famous "jungle temple" built in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII and dedicated to his mother. Unlike other temples, Ta Prohm has been left largely untouched, with giant tree roots intertwining with its ancient stone walls, creating a breathtaking fusion of nature and history. Known for its intricate carvings and mystical atmosphere, the temple gained international fame after appearing in Tomb Raider.
After an unforgettable exploration of these ancient wonders, your tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel in Siem Reap.
