Good tour, but mind the side hassle

We visited the 3 main temples with a guide named Sophy. The tour was nice, but the guide had some side business and brought us to this local shop near Angkor Wat with paintings and other stuff which they tried to sell. We later found these were overpriced, e.g. we spent 6$ for a fan which later found at a different store for 2$.

Good guide mediocre sites

Our guide Thom was very very good but unfortunately the company didn’t have much for him to work with. There is not much to see on this tour that is extraordinary and as much as he tried, he could not make a silk purse out of a sows ear. We spent 2 hours at lunch but the cause of the restaurant was very worthwhile as it was training at risk youth with skills to survive on their own as many were orphaned. The restaurant was very good! This put us very behind and made our 5.5 hr tour a 7.5hr tour. We spent 1/2 hour each way over a dusty dirt round to get to a waterfall that was hardly running and not worth the trip. We all gave up on our last stop which was the beach as we wanted to get back to the ship. Great guide! Not worthwhile trip. Please give him more to work with

Good but could be better

The village was very special to see, and I am glad we had this experience. All in all, I liked the tour but I have some suggestions for the organisers to improve it. We could not understand much about how people actually lived there, as we were just passing by the houses by boat, and watching from the distance. I would recommend the tour organisers add a bit more of a personal touch, coming closer to some houses or a school, maybe allowing us to see one of the houses. We also enjoyed a boat ride in between the trees and managed to see the monkeys, but the cost was 10 dollars for 15 min which is not cheap. Our guide was nice and funny but he could talk only on the bus and when the boat stopped due to the engine sound.

Killing fields

Tea was our guide, full of information but not as engaging as some of the other guides on our travels.

Too expensive for what you get

I liked our guide a lot; however, I thought this tour was rather expensive for what we received. We rode in a little shuttle bus to a market, where our guide walked around and pointed out various items. Then we went to the village on stilts, where we rode a very noisy boat through the water and out to the lake. We docked at a floating “restaurant” to take pictures or buy souvenirs, then return on the noisy boat, back to the bus & hotel. If I had paid half that price, maybe I would have been more impressed. The boat was so noisy that our guide couldn’t even talk, so we just sat there, and it was a long ride out and back.

Average experience only

Quite expensive (£40pp) for what you get. Punctual pickup at hotel in comfortable minibus (good). The guide seemed tired and there was a lot of waiting around at a bar/restaurant before seeing the sunset on the lake. The fishing village Kampong Phluk was interesting but you can see that for much less cost.
