Pick up  from your hotel and set out this morning in a private tour to the countryside which drive about 45-minutes to the fishermen’s village of Kompong Phluk whose name means 'harbor of the tusks' and Cambodia great lake. Enjoy Tonle Sap Lake, is a lake with no ends in front of you, and birds flying slowly overhead and surrounding with the interesting village.

During the dry season (February to Jul), the village can be reached by mini bus or motorbike, as the – bumpy - road that is normally flooded dries up.

In the rainy season (August to Jan), a short boat ride from the quay, through the wetland area will take you to Kompong Phluk. It is not a floating village but a village on high stilts as well as some floating houses and in spite of fishing is often the privilege of the Vietnamese minority but inhabitants of Kompong Phluk are almost exclusively of Cambodian origin. The villagers frequently move from house to another house during the rainy season, they live in houses built on stilts and move to small huts near the waterfront during the dry season to do fishing.

Arrive at the quay, board a local boat for a 1.5-hour ride on the Tonle Sap Lake as well as village where you will see nature in a way you’ve only seen in picture books, and the tour of Kampong Phluk is worth the extra effort to get there, then we will visit the village, the pagoda on the only butte (the only building which is not on stilts) and see the activities of the villagers who your expert guide will teach you about their culture, the life style, and the ecosystem of this fascinating place.

Optional (August to Jan): you can pay an extra to take a small canoes paddle by villagers; will take you deep into the dense flooded forest. The trees of this forest are perfectly adapted to their unusual existence as they are completely submerged a part of the year.

Return to Siem Reap and drop off at your hotel or requested drop off point drop-off Siem Reap city center.

Village Visit

What we love about this tour is that we got to visit a more rural part of Siem Reap and see how the villagers live - the bustling morning market, the houses on stilts at Kampong Phluk, the fishing boats, etc. The canoe ride through the mangrove was relaxing (and I had a boatwoman who paddled with her toddler sleeping on her lap!). A big thank you to our guide Mr Nak who shared his knowledge with us and took good care of us all the way.

Do not miss this experience when in Siem Reap

The private tour with our guide Vantha was amazing!! He took us to the local market and showed us many local products that we had no idea about. To see the fishing village later on and how the locals live was very impressive. Vantha is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. This tour is definitely recommended (it’s much less touristic which is great). We also did the little mangrove boat tour which was magical, we even saw a monkey in the trees.

Remarkable memories - Guaranteed!

I did solo travelling this August 2023 and i would like to commend my guide, Mr. Sorphia, for me giving me the best experience in touring around Tonle Sap Lake, Kampong Phluk Floating Village and the Mangrove Forest. I really appreciate his energy and enthusiasm as he shared interestinh stories of the places we visit and taking countless photos and videos for me which i find really excellent. I recommend taking this package if you want to bring home truly remarkable memories in this exotic and cultural side of Siem Reap - definitely worth the price.

For Alex's birthday, Sath made my day.

The journey to the stilt town on the lake was interesting. You'll get to observe how the people really live their lives, obtain their daily necessities, go to school, etc. When I was there, it was the dry season. When the rainy season arrives, it will literally resemble a floating village. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and insightful about all things connected, including facts, figures, and information regarding size. The Tonlé Sap, Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake, is home to settlements where residents coexist peacefully with the water's ebbs and flows. Our final visit was at a restaurant that was overflowing, and we were all cheered on the roof of the establishment with four bottles of Angkor beer. You won't be regrets if you ask for both of them.

Pretty incredibly conducted tour.

My guide was Sath. The tour proceeded at my pace and accordingly was most enjoyable and richly informative. (I am old and go at a leisurely pace as. I want to really experience and learn and photograph.) To explore the village at height of the dry season, realizing that half of the year boat is only transport, was fascinating. Village wat also fascinating as it is massively scene painted. Very much worth the cost.
