Tour Itinerary

Your half-day tour begins in the afternoon with a pick-up by your guide and Tuk Tuk driver, taking you on a captivating journey to Angkor Wat. Here, you will witness the breathtaking view of the temple before exploring its vast complex. As a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest religious monument in the world, Angkor Wat is a masterpiece of Khmer architecture. Built in the 12th century by King Suryavarman II, it was originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu before becoming a Buddhist temple. The intricate bas-reliefs and symbolic design reflect Mount Meru, the center of the universe in Hindu and Buddhist cosmology.

Following Angkor Wat, the tour continues to Angkor Thom, the grand capital of the Khmer Empire, built in the 12th century under King Jayavarman VII. Enclosed by a 3-kilometer-long wall on each side, the city features five monumental gates. You will stop at the South Gate of Angkor Thom, the best-preserved and most famous entrance to the ancient city. Built in the late 12th century in the Bayon style, this iconic gate is a popular spot for photos before entering Angkor Thom.

Inside the city, you will visit Bayon Temple, a temple-mountain that symbolizes Mount Meru. Built nearly a century after Angkor Wat, Bayon was expanded over time and now stands as a grand architectural wonder. Its 54 towers are adorned with over 200 massive stone faces, believed to represent the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. These serene faces, known as the "Smile of Angkor," exude majesty and reflect the omnipresence of the king. As you pass through Angkor Thom, you will see the Terrace of the Elephants, a 350-meter-long platform adorned with intricate carvings of elephants and mythological figures. Built by King Jayavarman VII, this grand stage was used for royal events and public ceremonies, offering insight into the splendor of the Khmer Empire.

The final stop is Phnom Bakheng, a 9th-century temple dedicated to Shiva, known for its pyramid-like structure. This hilltop temple offers one of the best panoramic sunset views over Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples. The climb to the top is steep but short, and although it can get crowded at sunset, it remains a peaceful retreat during the day. After soaking in the breathtaking sunset, you will return to town, where your driver will drop you off at your hotel in Siem Reap.
