Itinerary
Following a hotel pick-up, your guide will take you to the Royal Palace, built in 1866 by the French after King Norodom relocated the royal capital from Oudong. Located on the western banks of the Tonle Sap and Mekong River, the palace complex features stunning Khmer architecture, divided into 4 main compounds.

The grounds of the Palace are also home to the Silver Pagoda, which received its name because its floor is made of 5,329 silver tiles. Learn about the Khmer kings, resident at all times, with the exception of the period when the Khmer Rouge took control in 1975. See gold and jeweled Buddha statues in the Silver Pagoda, and the Angkor Wat style Bell Tower.

Then, learn about the turbulent years of the Khmer Rouge at the infamous Tuol Sleng Museum. Located in a former high school that was used as the notorious Security Prison 21, the Genocide Museum traces the story of the Killing Fields and the torture and executions that took place from 1975-79. See exhibits that tell the stories of some of the estimated 20,000 prisoners that were killed.

Return to the city center and and get stunning views of the Tonle Sap and Mekong River Side before heading back to your hotel.

Moving

This ended up being a private tour, as I was the only one who showed up. It’s pricey but worth it for the insights of my guide - Samat. His memories were fascinating but painful. Lovely man.The whole Killing Fields & Genocide Museum experience is harrowing. It’s shocking to think it all happened so recently. I would recommend this tour. It’s an important piece of history that should not be forgotten.

Mind blowing but with a sadness that only experience can tell.

We had a wonderful guide in Siphat who took us around each site. His own personal experience was something I hope no one ever has to go through. He was a wonderful guide and is a generous person. Thank you Siphat

Excellent and impressive tour!

Very impressive tour. I really got to know the story behind the near history of Phnom Penh. The tour guide Siphat (who speaks English and Russian very clearly), told me all information with a personal touch. It might not be the cheapest way to explore the city and the Khmer Rouge history, but i would certainly recommend it.

Knowledgeable and Passionate Tour Guide

Siphat introduced us to Phnom Penh. He is passionate, seems to enjoy his work, and was attentive to our interests (e.g., my husband wanted to see woodworkers in the city). He has also experienced the genocide during the war personally, which made it even more interesting. Thank you, Siphat!

Must-Do in Phnom Penh

This sobering and educational tour hit many highlights in Phnom Penh. My excellent and kind guide Sophy was extraordinary, and provided clear and relevant history and facts about both the Royal Palace and the Killing Fields/S-21. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city as an introduction and as an opportunity to bear witness to the recent history of Cambodia.
